August 10, 2025The Vocal Groove Collective is proud to welcome Reniel Idos—an award-winning singer-songwriter whose voice and artistry are set to bring a whole new dimension to the group’s performances.
Reniel’s musical journey began at just eight years old in the province of Pangasinan, Philippines. Guided by a deep love for music and inspired by his family, friends, and fellow artists, he has dedicated himself to using music as a force for positivity, drawing on life’s experiences, trials, hopes, and dreams to craft heartfelt performances. His philosophy is simple yet powerful: music is the universal language that connects us all.
We first encountered Reniel’s exceptional talent during his performances with the Madison Avenue Band, a powerhouse lineup of A-list musicians. His beautiful voice—paired with an extraordinary high-tenor range—instantly stood out. Every note he sings is delivered with clarity, emotion, and a rare ability to captivate an audience from the very first moment.
Reniel’s career highlights include representing the Philippines at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2023 in Anaheim, California, USA. On the world stage, he earned multiple top honors:
🏆 Division Champion in Pop (Vocal with Self-Accompaniment), Country (Vocal with Self-Accompaniment), and Open Category
🥇 Gold Medals in Pop, Country, Open, and Soul/Jazz/RnB

July 17, 2025On a scorching 30+°C summer day, the Vocal Groove Collective turned up the heat even more at the prestigious Concert Stage at Harbourfront Centre during Fun Philippines Toronto 2025 — and what a show it was!
The event kicked off with a stellar performance by Kayleigh Cerezo, star of 13: The Musical on Netflix. She blew the crowd away with her unbelievable vocals and commanding stage presence, delivering a powerful set that left the audience in awe and set the tone for what was to come.
Then it was our turn.
For a full 45-minute set, VGC lit up the stage with high-energy choreography, powerhouse vocals, and nonstop crowd interaction. From the funky classic “Le Freak” to the dancefloor hit “Uptown Funk,” the audience was on their feet — and one lucky guest even won a prize for dancing non-stop from our second song to the last!
The performance featured:Rodney Ronquillo, Chyrell Ronquillo, Rommel Sudan, Kuya Pabs Quiogue, Jhoana Valdez, Lalaine Osea, Marvs Fuentes, Jenifer Camacho, John Alix, JR Teodoro (newcomer), Antoinette Targa, Ailene Targa, and the exciting introduction of veteran fiddler Alex Cheung, whose violin added a fresh and dynamic layer of sound to our musical fusion.
Shortly after the show, the FUN Philippines Toronto team posted this incredible feedback on Facebook:
“The Vocal Groove Collective was FUNtastic! 🎤✨They brought the soul, the power, and the good vibes to #FunPhilippines2025! Huge thanks for an incredible performance that had us all singing along and feeling every note. ❤️🙌”

June 26, 2025We’re excited to have found the perfect fit. JR is not only a longtime friend of VGC, but also a vocal veteran with decades of experience as a performer, producer, and musical director.
He’s performed on some of the biggest Filipino stages across the GTA, from Mabuhay Festival to Fun Philippines and Pinoy Fiesta. A Gary Valenciano Singing Contest Champion, JR has also rocked the stage as part of the high-energy trio The Bad Ass Dudes.
But his impact goes far beyond the stage.
JR is a worship leader at his church, a respected community leader in Toronto’s Filipino community, a proud dad, and a passionate entrepreneur. He brings a heart of service, a voice of power, and the kind of presence that uplifts any room he walks into.
His much-needed tenor voice perfectly complements our high-tenor Rommel Sudan, bringing a whole new level of depth and harmony to the VGC sound.

May 26, 2025It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved friend, community leader and Vocal Groove Collective sister, Pam Gamboa Gan.
Though she was with us for only a short time, Pam brought so much light, heart, and joy to our group. Being part of VGC was a dream of hers — and in the time we shared, she fulfilled it with grace, courage, and an unforgettable spirit.
Her warmth, kindness, and passion for music touched us all. We are beyond grateful to have known her, even briefly, and we will carry her memory with us always.

April 30, 2025Anya De Jesus is a talented vocalist and guitarist who is now joining the powerhouse women of the Vocal Groove Collective. Known for her smooth voice and strong musical background, Anya has been a part of the music scene for years, sharing her love for performing with others.
A seasoned performer, Anya’s musical influences include the legendary Liza Minnelli, and she is eager to explore more pop music with the group, expanding her repertoire and style. In addition to her vocal abilities, she is also a skilled guitarist, showcasing her versatility as an artist.
Anya was previously a singing judge alongside Rodney and Chyrell back in the early 2000s, bringing her keen ear for talent and deep understanding of music to that role. More recently, Anya wowed audiences with her stunning rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” in a concert performance with a large choir, demonstrating her powerful stage presence and vocal range. March 12, 2025Huge news! 🎉 Our very own Bevs Saraza, one of the powerhouse vocalists of The Vocal Groove Collective, has made it into the nationwide talent competition, Canada’s Got Talent!
Bevs is no stranger to the big stage—she’s a multi-award winner at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA), earning several gold medals in singing and rap, just to name a few.
In addition to her role with us, Bevs is a talented vocalist in several bands, including Madison Avenue in Toronto, and brings her dynamic voice and energy to a wide range of performances. Alongside her partner Franz Natividad, she also co-runs a marketing, events, and music entertainment company that delivers outstanding live experiences.

December 8, 2024This past December, The Vocal Groove Collective delivered a memorable and uplifting performance at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish’s annual Christmas Concert fundraiser, “A New Noel.” Held in Scarborough, Ontario, this festive event brought together a rich variety of talent, showcasing the vibrant musical spirit of the parish community.
The evening featured an impressive lineup of acts, including visiting parish bands, the church’s many dedicated choirs, their resident rock band The Boldheads, and the youthful energy of the Moving Parts Quartet, one of the parish’s talented youth bands. The Moving Parts Quartet brought a fresh and lively vibe to the event, treating the audience to upbeat Christmas pop hits that added a modern touch to the festive occasion.
Amid the musical festivities, The Vocal Groove Collective captivated the audience with their 25-minute set, holding the nearly sold-out crowd spellbound. Their energetic and soulful renditions had attendees dancing in joy and sharing in the festive cheer. A standout moment of the evening was their lively performance of the Pointer Sisters’ rock-hit version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” which brought the jolly St. Nick to life on stage, much to the delight of the audience.
Adding to the magic, some members of The Vocal Groove Collective delivered stunning solo performances throughout the concert. Highlights included:
Kuya Pabs Quiogue and Rodney Ronquillo (on piano) presenting a heartfelt rendition of David Foster’s beloved hit, “Thankful.”
Rodney accompanying one of the parish cantors, Jeneetha, on a moving performance of “Grown-Up Christmas List.”
Bevs Saraza joining the large St. Thomas More Combined Choir as one of three soloists for a breathtaking delivery of “O Holy Night,” accompanied by Don Torres on piano.
The event was not only a celebration of the holiday season but also served as a fundraiser to support the parish’s community initiatives and structural renovations.
The Vocal Groove Collective is proud to have been part of such a meaningful event, sharing the stage with talented musicians and spreading the message of love, peace, and joy through music. Their performance at “A New Noel” demonstrated the power of music to bring people together and create lasting memories.

November 17, 2024We are deeply saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of Mercy, one of the talented singers of the legendary band from the Philippines – Aegis. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and the entire band during this difficult time. Mercy’s voice and presence brought immense joy to countless fans who cherished Aegis and their music. She will be greatly missed.
